Case Study: A Halo-Lit Gold Stainless Steel Sign for Pilates Addiction in Roswell

When Pilates Addiction opened its new studio in Roswell, they wanted the room to feel as premium as the workout. The design already had the right ingredients: a dark board-and-batten feature wall, gold accents, and gold-framed reformers lined up across the floor. What it needed was a centerpiece. Optic Signs built it: an 8-foot-wide logo wall in polished gold stainless steel, backlit with LEDs so a warm halo outlines every letter. It's the first thing members see when they walk into class, and it ties the whole room together.

The Project at a Glance

  • Client: Pilates Addiction, Roswell, GA
  • Sign type: Halo-lit (reverse-lit) dimensional letters and logo
  • Overall size: 8'-4 5/16" wide x 2'-1 5/8" tall, with 10" letters on each line
  • Faces: 18-gauge stainless steel with a Polished Gold Titanium finish
  • Returns: 3" deep 18-gauge stainless steel, welded to the faces and sanded smooth, in the same gold finish
  • Backs: .187" light-diffused Lexan
  • Lighting: 4000K white LEDs with remote power supplies
  • Mounting: Stood off the wall on 1-1/2" spacers and through-bolted with threaded rod into blocking
  • Also installed: Exterior channel letters on the storefront

Why Stainless Steel and Gold?

Pilates Addiction's brand leans on black and gold, and the studio was designed around it. A painted gold finish would have looked flat next to the real metal accents on the reformers and the gold trim along the baseboard. So we built the letters from stainless steel and finished the faces and returns in Polished Gold Titanium, a mirror-like titanium gold coating that holds its color and shine for years.

The mirror finish does something paint can't: it reflects the room. The ceiling, the equipment, and the people in class all show up in the faces of the letters, so the sign looks a little different from every spot in the studio. In daylight it reads like solid metal. When the lights come down for evening classes, the halo takes over.

How Halo Lighting Works

Halo lighting (also called reverse-lit or backlit lettering) is what separates a premium interior sign from a standard one. Instead of shining light out through the face of the letter, the LEDs sit inside each letter and aim back toward the wall.

On this sign, every letter is a sealed stainless steel shell: a solid gold face, 3" deep welded returns, and a light-diffused Lexan back. The diffused back softens the LEDs so you see a smooth, even glow instead of individual hot spots. Because the letters sit 1-1/2" off the wall on spacers, the light has room to spread out and wash the dark panels behind them.

A few details make the difference here:

  • Dark wall, bright halo. The charcoal board-and-batten wall gives the light plenty of contrast, so the glow reads strong even with the room lights on.
  • Welded and sanded returns. Every seam is welded and sanded smooth before finishing, so the sides of each letter look as clean as the faces. With a mirror finish, any flaw would show.
  • Remote power supplies. Keeping the power supplies away from the letters keeps the sign slim and quiet, and makes future service easier.

The Storefront: Exterior Channel Letters

The interior sign is the showpiece, but the experience starts in the parking lot. We also fabricated and installed a set of channel letters on the storefront, matching the Pilates Addiction logo and wordmark. Members see the same brand outside on the building and inside on the studio wall, which makes a new location feel established from day one.

What a Premium Interior Sign Does for a Fitness Studio

It sets the tone before class starts. Boutique fitness clients are paying for an experience, not just a workout. A polished logo wall tells them the details matter here, and that supports premium membership pricing.

It becomes the photo wall. Pilates and boutique fitness clients share their workouts on social media. A glowing gold logo is the natural backdrop for post-class photos, and every one of those posts puts the brand in front of new people.

It matches the rest of the investment. When a studio puts real money into reformers, finishes, and design, a cheap sign stands out for the wrong reasons. Stainless steel and a titanium gold finish hold up to the same standard as the rest of the room.

It keeps working every day. A fabricated sign is a one-time investment that reinforces the brand with every class, every member, and every photo, for years.

Is a Halo-Lit Metal Sign Right for Your Business?

Halo-lit stainless steel letters are a great fit when:

  • Your space is part of the product, as in fitness and Pilates studios, spas, salons, medical and dental offices, restaurants, and corporate lobbies.
  • You have a solid feature wall that can take through-bolted mounting into blocking, ideally in a darker or mid-tone color that makes the halo pop.
  • Your brand uses metallic colors like gold, brass, rose gold, or silver, and you want the real thing instead of paint.
  • Power can reach the sign location, or can be run there during the build-out.

In very bright rooms with lots of direct light, the halo effect can get washed out. In those cases, non-illuminated metal letters, face-lit letters, or acrylic panels can be strong alternatives, and we're happy to walk you through the options.

FAQ

How much does a halo-lit stainless steel sign cost? Pricing depends on overall size, number of letters, metal and finish, lighting, and the wall and electrical conditions on site. Polished metal finishes like titanium gold cost more than painted aluminum, but they deliver a look paint can't match. We provide a detailed quote after reviewing your logo and space.

What's the difference between stainless steel and aluminum letters? Both make great dimensional signs. Aluminum is lighter and takes paint well, which makes it a strong choice for custom brand colors. Stainless steel is heavier and more rigid, and it can carry polished and mirror finishes like gold titanium, making it the go-to for a high-end metal look.

Will the gold finish fade or tarnish? Titanium gold finishes are applied to the stainless steel itself rather than painted on, so they hold their color well indoors. A soft cloth and a gentle cleaner are all it takes to keep the faces looking polished.

How long does it take? Timelines vary by size and finish, but we'll give you a clear schedule from design approval to installation. We're used to working around grand openings and build-out deadlines.

Do I need a permit for an interior sign? Interior signs often don't need the same sign permit as exterior signage, but illuminated signs involve electrical work, and requirements vary by city and property. Your landlord may also need to approve it. We'll help you sort out what's needed before fabrication begins.

Can you match our logo exactly? Yes. We work from your logo files to reproduce your typefaces, letter shapes, and finishes, just as we did with Pilates Addiction's logo mark and wordmark.
